About The Matthews Family

Kidogo means “small” in Swahili, but Kidogo Farms boasts a food forest, ecotours, farm stays, and more. Run by Alissia Matthews, her husband Montey, and their children Sydney and Myles, Kidogo Farms showcases how Gullah traditions connect creatively and sustainably with the land, and how traditional knowledge can teach all ages how to be more self-sufficient.

"Gullah Geechee culture represents a mixture of many West African cultures. We came back to the Lowcountry to connect our children to that culture. We encouraged Myles and Sydney to have fun and create a rice seasoning using a mixture of seasonal peppers and spices that reflect their Gullah Geechee heritage."
